Workington and Maryport regeneration gets kick-start

The North-West Development Agency has put forward £14.5 million to help kick-start the regeneration of Workington and Maryport in West Cumbria. Regeneration agency West Lakes Renaissance plans to deliver an eight-year regeneration programme which is intended to create 470 new jobs and provide public realm improvements in both towns.
Brierley Hill regeneration gets extra cash

The European Regional Development Fund is providing an extra £1.7 million towards the regeneration of Brierley Hill in the West Midlands. The ERDF grant follows its previous award of £2.25 million in 2003. The funding will be used by the Brierley Hill Regeneration Partnership to contribute towards a range of regeneration projects in the area covering transport, housing, retail and employment.
RBS loans money to most deprived wards in UK

The Royal Bank of Scotland loaned £659 million to the five per cent most deprived wards in the UK in 2005, according to the bank's annual corporate responsibility report. It says that the RBS has a 39 per cent market share in these wards. The report can be viewed via www.regen.net/doc.

A Scottish urban regeneration agency has warned it will instigate "widespread" compulsory purchase orders to seize land from developers that are "crucifying" some of the country's coastal towns.
SixtyK wins contract

Consortium SixtyK has won the contract to redevelop Rowan High School in Merton as part of government regeneration agency English Partnerships' Design for Manufacture competition. The scheme, which will consist of 227 houses and 32 flats, is on the last of ten sites for which a competition was held. The consortium comprises developer Crest Nicholson, architect Sheppard Robson and offsite manufacturer Kingspan.
Lathams chosen for heritage study

Architect Lathams has been chosen to conduct a heritage study in Oldham and Rochdale. The study will be used to identify which buildings to demolish or refurbish in the Oldham Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder area. The pathfinder is investing £48 million over the first two years of a 15-year housing project.
Raploch picks R3 consortium

Raploch Urban Regeneration Company has picked the R3 consortium to redevelop the Raploch area of Stirling. R3, a joint venture between builders the Cruden Group and George Wimpey, plans to build 650 private and 250 socially rented homes on the site, as well as a community health complex, an educational campus, two primary schools, family centres and sports facilities.
English Partnerships picks Barratt for Harlow

English Partnerships has selected housebuilder Barratt to build 530 homes near Harlow in Essex. The homes, worth £100 million in total, will be built on a 10ha site adjoining the A414 on the northern edge of the town. The first phase of the scheme, which has outline planning consent, is expected to begin in September.
