Howard Shiplee, redevelopment chief executive of Ascot Racecourse, has been appointed by the Olympic Delivery Authority as director of construction. He will develop, lead and manage construction contracts for all Olympic venues and facilities. Shiplee takes up his post in September.

Ian Charie is to leave consultancy Atkins next month to move to the United States to pursue his planning and regeneration career in Boston. Charie worked for the London Docklands Development Corporation for ten years until its end in 1998.

Appointment at The Department for Work and Pensions

The Department for Work and Pensions has appointed Lisa Harker as an independent adviser on child poverty. She will advise the Government on how it can meet its target to eradicate child poverty by 2020. Harker was deputy director of think-tank the Institute for Public Policy Research from 2000 to 2003 and chair of childcare charity the Daycare Trust for five years to 2006.
