Lend Lease appointed

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council has appointed developer Lend Lease to carry out the retail and residential development of Stockport town centre as part of the Future Stockport scheme. Lend Lease will develop a site project adjacent to the M60 motorway to create a 100,000sq metre town centre extension.
St Mary le Port development

Bristol City Council, Morley Fund Management and developer Strand Street Properties have announced that Bristol's business quarter, St Mary le Port, will be developed by Deeley Freed Estates. The site, next to Bristol Bridge at the junction of Wine Street and High Street, will be used to provide a mix of cafes, restaurants, offices and new housing overlooking the city's floating harbour.
Union North wins competition

Liverpool-based architect Union North has won the international design competition to deliver housing to New Heartlands Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder. New homes will be provided in the Park Street and Grafton Street area of Dingle, a mile south of Liverpool city centre. The brownfield site scheme will feature a mix of homes for outright sale, shared-ownership and rent.
Lovell for scheme

Oxford Citizens Housing Association has selected housebuilder Lovell for a £3.7 million scheme in Oxford which will create 41 new homes for rent and shared ownership. The homes will be built on land formerly occupied by sheltered accommodation and local authority garage blocks.
Renew North Staffordshire appoints

Housing market renewal pathfinder Renew North Staffordshire has appointed more than 50 professional services businesses to a panel of suppliers. The firms range from architects and lawyers to surveyors and researchers and will bid for contracts to help renewal of the area's housing market in the next 15 years.

John McHale has joined Merseyside-based housing consultancy RDHS as a director. McHale was formerly chief executive of Knowsley Housing Trust and is a former president of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Appointment at JLP

Contractor and developer JLP has appointed Grant Bauckham as operations director. Bauckham joins from housing association Furlong Homes and will oversee the introduction of a new management structure.
Appointment at Commission for Racial Equality (CRE)

Home Secretary Charles Clarke has named three new and two returning commissioners to the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE). Carol Adams, currently chief executive of the General Teaching Council for England; Sir Colin Budd, a retired member of HM diplomatic service; and Dilwar Hussain, head of the policy research unit at the Islamic Foundation, Leicester have all joined, while Khurshid Ahmed and Gloria Mills return. The appointments will run until March 2009 when the CRE will be merged with the Commission for Equality and Human Rights.
