Plans to tackle crime through the design of housing estates have been proposed by the Conservatives. They suggest new planning guidelines to improve residents' view of streets and provide secure parking to cut vehicle crime.
Social homes improved

More than one million social homes were improved to meet the decent homes standard between 1996 and 2004, according to government figures published last week. Severnside Housing poor

Shrewsbury-based housing association Severnside Housing is failing to provide a proper service for its tenants, according to the Government's services watchdog. The Audit Commission found the association was "poor" with "poor prospects for improvement" because the homes are not being improved to a modern standard and services are inaccessible.
