Crack down on "enviro crimes"

Councils will be given extra powers to crack down on a range of "enviro crimes" that blight neighbourhoods under new environment laws that came into force this week. Under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act, councils will be able to issue £80-200 fines for activities such as fly-tipping or abandoning a vehicle. Visit www.defra.gov.uk.
Housing key targets

The Housing Corporation has hit its key targets under the 2005-06 Approved Development Programme for new homes, it said this week. The Corporation predicted that its development partners would meet efficiency savings targets for new supply by the 2008 deadline set out in the Gershon review.
'Capability reviews'

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Department of Trade and Industry and Department for Education and Skills, are to be subject to 'capability reviews' the Cabinet Office announced this week. The reviews will look at where the departments need to improve in leadership, strategy and delivery.
London Bridge site
