Community radio stations awarded licences

Another six community radio stations have been awarded full five-year licences. They are in Stockton-on-Tees, Chesterfield, Nelson in Lancashire, Cardiff, Cambridge and Aldershot. A total of 99 such stations have now been licensed.

Funding bodies need to do more

Funding bodies need to do more to help the voluntary and community sector improve its understanding of collaboration, according to the National Council for Voluntary Organisations' Collaborative Working Unit. At a seminar held last week, 60 delegates from VCS funding bodies were told they have a key role to play in encouraging collaboration to ensure funds are used effectively.

The 15 National Lottery distributors have launched a website to help organisations looking for lottery grants. The site has been designed as a "one stop shop" - a single "virtual gateway" to lottery funding information. It is at www.lotteryfunding.org.uk.
Report by the Scottish Executive's Finance Committee

The establishment of a single fund to combat deprivation has been recommended in a report by the Scottish Executive's Finance Committee. In a wide-ranging review of deprivation spending, it says a single national fund would help to tackle problems more effectively. The report is available at www.regen.net/doc The executive board of Leeds City Council has given the go-ahead for the authority to bid for £90 million from the ODPM to improve Beeston Hill and Holbeck under a private finance initiative. If approved, the scheme would see 200 council homes and up to 500 private homes built.
Tees Valley Housing Group awarded funds

Housing association Tees Valley Housing Group has been awarded more than £9 million to develop affordable housing and regeneration projects across the Tees Valley and North Yorkshire. The Housing Corporation funding will be spread across ten schemes.
