Death of Peter Law

Former Welsh assembly planning and housing minister Peter Law died this week aged 58. Law was first elected to the assembly in 1999 and served in Alun Michael's cabinet as environment and local government secretary. He was replaced by Sue Essex in a cabinet reshuffle in 2000 when Rhodri Morgan succeeded Michael. Law resigned his Labour seat in Blaenau Gwent over a row about women-only shortlists, only to win it back as an independent candidate last year.
