Haley Sharpe commissioned by Churnet Valley Railway

Design company Haley Sharpe has been commissioned by Churnet Valley Railway to research plans for the development of a heritage centre and railway restoration workshops in Staffordshire Moorlands. The railway attracts around 50,000 visitors a year but there are plans to increase this figure. The centre is to focus on wider environmental and built heritage themes among others.

Appointment at Pro Manchester

Daniel Dobson-Mouawad has been appointed as chief executive of business association Pro Manchester. He joins from economic development agency Manchester Enterprises, where he was director of economic development. Dobson-Mouawad, who is vice-chairman of the Institute of Economic Development, has also been involved in the regeneration of London Docklands and the Thames Gateway.

Graham McWilliam has joined Copeland Borough Council as economic and tourism development manager.McWilliam, who joins from Eden District Council, will be responsible for promoting the borough as a location for inward investment.

Appointment at the Confederation of British Industry

Employers' organisation the Confederation of British Industry has appointed Richard Lambert as its new director-general. Lambert, a former editor of the Financial Times and a member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, will take over from present director-general Sir Digby Jones in July.

Appointment at the Clyde Waterfront Board

Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell has been appointed chair of the Clyde Waterfront Board, established to oversee the delivery of Scotland's largest urban regeneration programme. The Clyde Waterfront regeneration programme aims to renew eight miles of waterfront from Glasgow Green to Erskine, and involves more than 160 projects.

Terry Murphy has joined social enterprise Community Ventures as deputy chief executive. Murphy previously worked for the Safer Middlesbrough Partnership, implementing measures to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, and prior to that at Middlesbrough Council, developing support for vulnerable young people.
