Lottery good causes distributor the Big Lottery Fund and ITV have launched the second series of a programme that gives viewers a say on how lottery cash is awarded. The People's Millions, to be screened this autumn, will award 90 grants of up to £50,000 to regional projects.

New innovation centre in Salford

A new innovation centre in Salford is to be funded with £5.9 million from the North-West Regional Development Agency. The grant will help to pay for the development of 5,000 sq metres of high-quality, managed office space for hi-tech business start-ups and small- to medium-sized enterprises, supported by an advanced ICT network. It is expected to host 55 firms and will provide training space for local colleges.

The Vodafone UK Foundation announces grants

Corporate social responsibility charity the Vodafone UK Foundation has announced grants of more than £240,000 to support voluntary groups across the country. The recipients include green transport charity Sustrans, which is receiving £32,101 for work on cycle commuting, and the Black Training and Enterprise Group, which is getting £75,080 for a communications programme which uses text messages and email alerts.

Refurbishment of 53 former Ministry of Defence properties

The Scottish Executive's housing and regeneration agency has provided £2 million to Moray Council and the Moray Housing Partnership to buy and refurbish 53 former Ministry of Defence properties. The Communities Scotland funding will also help Moray Council purchase 23 further properties for sale to local people.

Redevelopment of Craylands Estate in Basildon

The redevelopment of the Craylands estate in Basildon will be led by urban designers and planners John Thompson & Partners with housebuilder Lovell and Swan Housing Group. They will work with residents to develop a masterplan and prepare detailed planning applications for the phased redevelopment of the estate and the adjacent Fryerns School site.

St Modwen Properties signs building lease

Developer St Modwen Properties has signed a building lease with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council to develop a 5ha site in Merseyside. The site has been reclaimed and serviced by the council and the redevelopment will be in three phases including the creation of a business village.

Law firm Burness LLP to advise new urban regeneration companies

The three new urban regeneration companies announced by the Scottish Executive last week are to be advised by law firm Burness LLP in the development of their legal frameworks. Stephen Phillips, the partner who heads Burness' urban regeneration practice, said effective frameworks will be a "critical success factor" for the URCs' work.
