Child trust fund vouchers unused

More than 800,000 child trust fund vouchers are unused more than a year after the 'baby bond' scheme was launched, according to official figures out last week. The Revenue & Customs figures also reveal that nearly 1.5 million child trust fund accounts - 72 per cent of the vouchers issued - have been opened. The figures are available via www.regen.net/doc.
National Lottery launches awards scheme

An awards scheme that aims to find the UK's favourite lottery-funded project has been launched by good causes distributor the National Lottery. The National Lottery Awards 2006 is intended to highlight schemes that have made a difference to communities. Funds allocated to communities across Scotland

More than £725,000 has been allocated to 37 communities across Scotland to fund projects that aim to transform the environment in communities affected by quarrying. Projects to receive funding under the Scottish Executive's Community Environmental Renewal Scheme include the refurbishment of a former mill on Mull. English Partnerships to triple size of Atlas

Regeneration quango English Partnerships is to triple the size of its planning consultancy service Atlas. The Advisory Team on Large Applications, which helps small councils deal with significant planning applications, is to increase from four to up to 12 people to cope with demand.

Developers chosen for Canning Town

Developers have been chosen to take forward the regeneration of Canning Town in East London. Newham Council has selected Countryside Properties to take forward the scheme, as predicted by Regeneration & Renewal (R&R, 24 February, p4). The plans comprise 7,000 new homes, a new school, new health and leisure facilities and improvements to the local shopping area.
