Deptford station redevelopment

3 March 2006

A contract to redevelop Deptford train station and the area next to the town's high street has been secured by developer Cathedral Group. Plans for the site include 135 homes and 1,858sq metres of commercial space.

Tesco included at Gorton

3 March 2006

The 1.4ha shopping centre planned for Gorton in east Manchester is to include a Tesco Extra store under a deal agreed this week. The store will be the flagship scheme in the Gorton District Shopping Centre to be developed by preferred developer Ask Developments. There are also plans for a 1,850sq metre community market hall and 1,670sq metres of retail units.

FLACQ wins competition

An international competition to design a 4ha site next to the Midland Hotel on Morecambe's Central Promenade has been won by a new architecture and masterplanning practice. As the winner of the Morecambe Central Promenade Architecture Competition, FLACQ will now work on plans for the site with developer Urban Splash and Lancaster City Council.

Higgins secures deal

3 March 2006

A deal to build 116 homes in Rotherhithe in the East End has been secured by Higgins Construction. The company will work in partnership with registered social landlords London & Quadrant Group and Presentation Social Investment Agency to build the homes. The scheme is part of a programme funded by the Single Regeneration Budget to redevelop the Silwood estate which spans the London boroughs of Lewisham and Southwark.

Appointment at Newport Unlimited

John Burrows has been appointed as chief executive of urban regeneration company Newport Unlimited. Burrows was previously executive director for regional development for the Welsh Development Agency and was regeneration quango English Partnerships' regional director for south-west England.

Appointment - 2012 London Olympics

Olympics minister Tessa Jowell has appointed Janet Paraskeva to head the new body responsible for the distribution of lottery cash to fund the provision of facilities for the 2012 London Olympics. Paraskeva, chief executive of the Law Society of England and Wales, will serve a four-year term in charge of the Olympic Lottery Distributor.
