Four new areas in England have joined a Home Office initiative that aims to help neighbourhood groups share best practice with other bodies. Resident-led organisations in Kent, Salford, Sheffield and Birmingham will receive Guide Neighbourhoods funding of £100,000 to £250,000.
Liverpool housing initiative

An initiative to help house vulnerable people in Liverpool was launched last week. Under the Home Office-funded scheme - to be run by the city's crime and disorder reduction partnership - people recovering from drug addiction will be able to offer private landlords a rent deposit guaranteed by the council.
Big Lottery Fund awards

Good causes distributor the Big Lottery Fund has awarded £15 million to help develop play strategies for children. The award to the Children's Play Council is the first to be made from the fund's £155 million Children's Play initiative, which aims to improve children's play opportunities.
