Regional development agency Advantage West Midlands is to contribute £160,000 towards a food centre in Ludlow, Shropshire, to offer training and advice in farm-based retailing. The money comes from AWM's rural regeneration zone initiative, which provides funding and support to economic development in rural parts of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire.

Deprived parts of Swansea awarded funds

Deprived parts of Swansea have been awarded a share of £900,000 from Wales' flagship regeneration scheme, Communities First. The funding will go to the communities of Bonymaen and Townhill, an adult education centre in the Blaenymaes area and to the Swansea Council for Voluntary Services. Communities First targets Wales' poorest areas.

Tourism schemes in East Midlands awarded funds

Tourism schemes and organisations in the East Midlands have been awarded £2.1 million in a bid to attract more tourist business to the region. The money, from East Midlands Tourism, will go to ten marketing and improvement projects aimed at upgrading the region's tourism facilities and attracting more visitors.

Government-funded scheme to train cycling instuctors

A government-funded scheme is to make £300,000 available to enable local authorities to train cycling instructors. The money is being provided through a scheme run by national body Cycle England aimed at encouraging more young people to cycle. Around 40 per cent of youngsters would like to cycle to school, but are discouraged by parents until they have had proper training, Cycle England said.
