Government figures

Government figures published this week show a strong link between deprivation and high rates of incapacity benefit claimants. The figures show that almost half of the worst pockets of deprivation in England, Scotland and Wales fall within the 100 constituencies with the largest number of such claimants. Waterways appointments

Shops could be obsolete

Small local shops could become obsolete within a decade because of the growth in supermarkets, a special interest body of MPs is expected to warn later this month. The trend that has seen 10,000 independent shops close since 2000 could lead to their complete disappearance within ten years.
