Bovis Homes contract

Housebuilder Bovis Homes has won a £40 million contract with Bristol City Council to replace 330 post-war bungalows. The prefab buildings in Hengrove will be demolished and replaced by new council homes. In addition Bovis will build another 670 private homes on 15 sites throughout the city. Prefab tenants will be offered priority status for rehousing.
Atkins study

Planning and design consultancy Atkins is to conduct a study to identify ways of improving accessibility to the Great Fen in Huntingdonshire. Appointed by the Wildlife Trust, Atkins will put forward recommendations to increase visitor access, promote sustainable travel and manage impacts on local communities. The study forms part of the Great Fen Project, which aims to safeguard wildlife habitats and restore 3,000 hectares of wetland.
British Waterways shortlist

British Waterways has shortlisted two designs from Balfour Beatty and Costain for a new footbridge over the River Lea in north London. The bridge forms part of a £2.5 million project funded by a Growth Areas Grant and will link proposed waterfront housing, shops and restaurants at Hale Wharf with Tottenham Hale station.
Community Building contracts

Maintenance contractor Community Building Services has secured two ten-year partnering contracts with London's Stadium Housing Association, under which it will be responsible for repairs to around half of the 13,000 homes owned and managed by the association.
Appointment at The Scottish Qualifications Authority

The Scottish Qualifications Authority has appointed Dr Janet Brown as its new chief executive. Brown - currently managing director of industries at economic development agency Scottish Enterprise - starts her new role in February 2007. The SQA is responsible for the development, accreditation, assessment, and certification of qualifications other than degrees.

Kathryn McMaster has been appointed as assistant director of the South-East Northumberland and North Tyneside Regeneration Initiative (Senntri). She joins from Newcastle City Council. McMaster is a qualified chartered surveyor.

Dr John Howell OBE has joined Dialogue, a community relations firm that provides support for development proposals, as a consultant to its senior management team. Howell, who will work with the firm's public sector unit, was previously chief executive of television production company Fifth World and presented the business news for TV channel BBC World.
Appointment at Apollo Group Holdings

Apollo Group Holdings, which provides property refurbishment services to local authorities, has appointed Gavin Simonds as non-executive chairman. Simonds was previously a director of private bank Kleinwort Benson where his clients included housebuilders Berkeley Homes and Westbury Homes.

Developer Chase has appointed Paul Beaman as head of affordable housing. Beaman previously headed the property services division of Three Valleys Housing Association in the East Midlands. Previously, he was Midlands and Southern region area director for building and business services company Carillion.

Mandy Samrai has joined the development and new business directorate of housing association Moat as initiatives manager. Samrai, who was previously housing policy and projects manager at Gravesham Borough Council, will be based in the company's Dartford office.
