The Big Lottery Fund awards money to the Cart y Plwyf Association

Good causes distributor the Big Lottery Fund has awarded £39,577 to the Cart y Plwyf Association in Denbighshire North Wales to provide a community transport scheme for the isolated rural areas of Peniel, Prion, Natglyn and Saron. The cash will be used for a 16-seater mini bus and training for volunteer drivers.

North Belfast will receive an extra £1.25 million to tackle disadvantage and improve quality of life, Department for Social Development minister David Hanson announced this week. The funding is intended to continue the work of community empowerment partnerships through education and skills programmes, community relations training, leadership development, health activities, environmental improvements and youth work.
New youth volunteering charity receives funding

A new youth volunteering charity has received £3.5 million from seven funding partners. The as yet unnamed charity plans to develop volunteering activities for 16 to 25-year-olds across England. The funders are phone company T-Mobile, accountants KPMG, television stations MTV and Sky, retailer Tesco and charity the Hunter Foundation.
Sports facilities in Northern Ireland awarded funds

Sports facilities in Northern Ireland have been awarded £3.3 million by good causes distributor the Big Lottery Fund. The money will be used to improve facilities at primary and secondary schools in Belfast, Co Antrim and Co Tyrone through projects such as coaching courses, sports halls and floodlit astro-turf pitches.
Funding secured for UK's first National Centre for Carnival Arts

Funding has been secured for the UK's first National Centre for Carnival Arts in Luton. The centre, due to open in 2007, has received £6.2 million from Arts Council England East, the East of England Development Agency, European funds, and Luton Borough Council to provide training, workshops, seminars and showcase performances.
