The ODPM has launched a consultation on the regional split of the £5.5 billion allocated through Regional Housing Pots for the period 2006-07 and 2007-08. The east of England will get an increase of 50 per cent, reflecting the planned development in the growth areas and the housing pressures facing the South-East. The affordability problems in the South-West will be tackled with an increase of 40 per cent. In a separate announcement, the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said its five year plan would focus on affordable housing in rural areas.
