Rochdale residents are being canvassed for views on how their neighbourhood could be improved over the next 15 years. Residents of Inner Rochdale are in line for funding from the Oldham and Rochdale housing market renewal pathfinder. A bus is touring the area to give information and collect opinions during the consultation.

The evaluation of a conflict resolution programme set up after the 2001 northern race riots found indications of deep mistrust of statutory agencies, it emerged last week. The report highlighted concerns among local people over how well represented they feel by established community leaders and said other ways of communication may need to be found. Grants programme to encourage young people in physical activities

A grants programme to encourage young people to get involved in physical activities was launched in Scotland last week. The £5.5 million Active Futures scheme is sponsored by the Big Lottery Fund and is aimed at groups who often participate least, including young women, ethnic minority groups and disabled people. Computer-aided mapping project launched in Birmingham

A computer-aided mapping project aimed at measuring 'crime and grime' levels was launched in Birmingham last week. The council and West Midlands Police are developing the system, which monitors environmental crimes and anti-social behaviour such as graffiti and fly-tipping. The aim of the Public Space Index is to pinpoint problem areas and target resources and action effectively.
