A consortium of eight housing associations in the South-East will receive a £67 million grant from government regulatory body the Housing Corporation to provide 1,800 homes in 2004-2006. Plans to create a new urban quarter at Wapping Wharf on Bristol's Harbourside have been submitted to the city council, the developer has announced. The residential mixed-use scheme by Wapping Wharf (Umberslade) includes 61,000sq metres of new development and building conversions. The developers said the 500-700 homes will be complemented by shops and restaurants, with office/work space and scope for a 200-bed hotel.
