An office development in Great Yarmouth's Beacon Park has been approved by Great Yarmouth Borough Council and the East of England Development Agency. Developer MPM Properties will submit a planning application to develop a headquarters building for a national firm of accountants and business adviser PKF. The two-storey 743 sq m building will provide quality modern office accommodation to complement the Beacon Park Innovation Centre. Building work is due to be completed next year.

The SRB5 project works to deliver joined-up approaches to supporting families in need. Sheaf House in Sheffield is set to be demolished to make way for a city square under plans endorsed by Yorkshire Forward last week. The regional development agency regards the building, which it bought in 2001, as an eyesore. Yorkshire Forward hopes that its removal, which is seen as crucial to its Sheffield station scheme, will enhance access to the railway station and its immediate area to fulfil the aims of the city centre masterplan. Demolition is scheduled to begin next spring and the public square is due to be completed in 2006.

Wigan is set to benefit from a £6 million dual carriageway link road that was approved by the government last week. Transport secretary Alastair Darling gave the go-ahead to Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council to introduce compulsory purchase orders in the Chapel Lane and Poolstock areas of the town to pave the way for the A5225 link road. The route will create better access to the town's Westwood Park, which is set to become a site for business premises. The council is inviting tenders for the road building contract and work is expected to begin next year.
