Analysis: Clearing a path for the Northern Way

1 October 2004

The Northern Way strategy unveiled last week makes it clear that radical steps are needed to bring prosperity and improved housing to the North. He felt it was pointless to work with young adults because their propensity for crime is determined much earlier in life. Aiming to change the attitudes of 18-21 year olds is an idealistic and woolly goal given that characters are well developed by that stage, he said. Well, the Jesuits do say: "Give me a child until he is seven and I'll show you the man".
