A revamped community centre at Fulham, London, opened last week with local families taking part in activities, including arts and crafts, storytelling, climbing, dance, sport (above), and computer sessions. The Sands End Community Centre houses Sure Start early years and family support services, adult learning and sports development. The £1.9 million revamp was funded by Hammersmith and Fulham Council, the Learning and Skills Council and Sure Start. Mayor Charlie Treloggan said the revamp would "increase the numbers of local people using the centre", and contribute to lifelong learning.

First Base Partnership, Key London Alliance and a consortium led by Countryside Properties have been selected to work up further bids for the pilot London Wide Initiative, designed to deliver 15,000 homes in the capital, half for key workers.
City of Westminster Council win top prize

City of Westminster Council won the top prize for most successful empty property strategy in the Empty Homes Agency's annual Empty Property Awards, held last week. Exeter City Council scooped the award for best housing association scheme, while the annual Francis Garrett Award was given jointly to Martin Bewick from Sunderland Council and Lisa Wilson from Gateshead Council for establishing the North East Empty Property Forum.
Citybuild announces appointment of new chief executive

Hull urban regeneration company Citybuild last week announced the appointment of the former director of Arlington Economic Development in Washington DC as its new chief executive. Adam Wasserman has more than 18 years' experience in economic development, including business development strategy, marketing and regeneration.
