Community Renewal Brief: The Peabody Trust wins contract

Housing association the Peabody Trust has won a contract from the Department for Education and Skills' Children and Youth Division to administer the Local Network Fund in the London boroughs of Haringey, Enfield, Islington and Camden. The trust will award grants of up to £7,000 to community and voluntary groups from a total fund of £469,566 which is available until 31 March 2005.

Environmental campaign group Keep Britain Tidy is urging councils and housing associations to collect dumped cars for free as part of a two-week amnesty in November. More than 80 councils have already joined the campaign, which will see wrecked cars moved for nothing to reduce the cost of removing and storing them.

Residents in the South Kilburn New Deal for Communities area in north London, have been invited to influence the future look and design of new homes to be built in the area. Brent Council and South Kilburn NDC were awarded £9.85 million from the Single Regional Housing Pot in March for the building of new homes. They are asking volunteers to join a working group to help shape the design of the new blocks.

Community Renewal Brief: Government's delay in allocating funds

The Government's delay in announcing how it intends to distribute funds from the Supporting People programme is disrupting the planning of services for vulnerable people, the National Housing Federation said this week. The federation has written to Lord Rooker, the minister responsible for regeneration, urging him to publish a timetable for the allocation of grants.
