Lord Marshall, the former chief executive of British Airways, will take over from the current chair Sir Michael Lickiss next January. VisitBritain was created last year when the British Tourist Authority and the English Tourism Council merged.

Almost three-quarters of the population agree that wind farms are necessary to help meet energy needs in the UK, according to an opinion poll carried out for the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA). The association is launching a new campaign, called Embrace the Revolution, which aims to challenge the notion that wind farms are unpopular, noisy and a blot on the landscape.
