Physical Regeneration: New deal for Aylesbury

Refurbishment of Aylesbury Estate, in south London, is due to start next year following the release of the final part of a £30 million grant from the Government Office for London (GoL). The money will go towards redevelopment of the south-west corner of the estate (above) - the first phase of the work. Aylesbury New Deal for Communities is to carry out improvements including concierge systems for the tower blocks and private parks for residents. NDC chair Tony Taitte said: "The approval from GoL represents the start of a massive transformation of the Aylesbury."
Regeneration News brief: Leehampton chosen as developer for regeneration scheme

Leehampton Developments has been chosen as the preferred developer for the regeneration of Cavendish Square in Swindon. Leehampton, working in partnership with Bellway City Solutions, is proposing a parade of shops and a covered mall with low-rise housing, 30 per cent of which would be affordable. Swindon Borough Council chose the developer from a shortlist of three after public consultation found that 65 per cent of respondents favoured Leehampton's proposal for the area.

Four London boroughs and private sector partners have created a new body in a bid to promote north London to potential investors. North London Ltd, launched last week, aims to bring together the private sector, the London Development Agency and Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest councils to create more affordable premises, streamline business support, and improve access to finance.

Regeneration organisation Sheffield First Partnership has joined forces with Midland Mainline to lobby government for improved investment in the London St Pancras to Sheffield link. "The quality of the rail infrastructure for Midland Mainline simply does not match the collective importance of the cities and towns its serves," Midland's managing director Paul Bunting said.
Regeneration News: London Borough of Harrow appoints team for masterplan

The London Borough of Harrow has appointed a team including architect Will Alsop and consultants Donaldsons to prepare a masterplan to transform Harrow town centre in north-west London. The council says that the area centred around Harrow-on-the-Hill rail and bus stations forms a strategic opportunity which could be the centrepiece of regeneration plans.

Wages are more equitable between the sexes in greater Liverpool than anywhere else in the UK, research has found.
