Stop Press: Earth Centre in Doncaster closes to public

The £135 million Millennium Commission-funded Earth Centre in Doncaster closed to the public this week after failing to attract enough visitors. Casual visitors will no longer be able to enter the so-called environmental theme park, it emerged as Regeneration & Renewal went to press. It will be taken over by Doncaster Council, which is likely to retain the onsite country park as a facility. Current advance bookings to the attraction will be honoured.

Stop Press: Project to regenerate Brynmawr praised

A controversial project to regenerate the Welsh town of Brynmawr has been praised in a soon-to-be published report by consultants MacGregor Smith and DTZ. Three years ago the Welsh Development Agency was criticised for demolishing an iconic building in the town by architect Ove Arap, which formed the prototype for the Sydney Opera House. But the report outlines how the town has prospered since the demolition, with its Lakeside Development and improvements to Winchestown and Beaufort Street.
