Developer St James is holding talks with Broomleigh Housing Association with a view to it acting as lead social landlord for the company's £94 million Dartford town centre regeneration scheme. The scheme includes 500 homes, of which around 150 will be affordable or for key workers. Some of those homes will be sold on to the Moat Housing Group.

Regeneration News brief: Redevelopment of Grahame Park, Barnet gets planning permission

Planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of the Grahame Park estate in Barnet. The work at the north London estate will include the demolition of more than 1,300 flats and houses and the building of 3,000 homes. Facilities such as a library and nursery buildings, a community centre and a supermarket are also planned. The redevelopment will be carried out by Choices for Grahame Park, a partnership between Notting Hill Housing Group and Genesis Housing Group.

A community centre, including a new library, IT suite, creche, and training facilities opened last week in Shropshire. Funded by organisations including the European Rural Development Fund, Advantage West Midlands and Sport England, the Severn Centre cost £3.5 million to build. It also includes a bowling green, multi-use games area and football and cricket pitches.

The Government's consultation into the next phase of police reform has found that the general public would like to see frontline officers forge closer links with local communities. The exercise attracted more than 5,000 responses. Home secretary David Blunkett said: "It is vital that we move beyond policing by consent to policing with the active cooperation of local people to help tackle crime at all levels." Regeneration News brief: English Partnerships draws up shortlist

English Partnerships has drawn up a shortlist of six developers for a mixed-use development at the former RAF Staff College in Bracknell. The quango bought the 44ha site from Defence Estates earlier this year to ensure that housing was built on it. The candidates will submit designs for the project by the end of autumn, when a lead developer will be chosen to help produce a masterplan for the site. The shortlisted organisations are Taylor Woodrow, Crest Nicholson with London and Quadrant Group, Linden Homes with the Guinness Trust, David Wilson with Thames Valley Housing Association, George Wimpey Special Projects and Countryside Properties.

A neighbourhood office housing the local housing association, a police access point and a meeting place for local community groups has opened in Moss Bank, St Helens. The Helena Housing neighbourhood office, which cost £700,000 to develop, is built on the site of the recently-demolished Windermere Drive flats.

Regeneration News brief: Scheme in Wisbech gets funding

A regeneration scheme in Wisbech in Cambridgeshire has been given £10 million funding to kick-start redevelopment work. The Nene Waterfront development will comprise 400 new homes, restaurants, businesses, leisure facilities and environmental improvements. The East of England Regional Development Agency provided £4 million, with the rest of the cash coming from European Objective 2 funding, English Partnerships, Fenland District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council.

Community Renewal Brief: Solihull housing association to install CCTV

A Solihull housing association is spending £3 million installing CCTV systems in its 42 high-rise blocks in a bid to improve safety, security and discourage crime and anti-social behaviour. Solihull Community Housing is to set up a 24-hour central monitoring system and provide an off-site concierge service.
