Figures produced by the National Centre for Social Research on behalf of the ODPM show that joblessness and overcrowding are higher in the social sector than other tenures, and that incomes are lower. A scheme aimed at promoting healthy living among Northern Ireland's most disadvantaged communities was launched with lottery funding last week. The Big Lottery Fund launched the Active Lifestyles Programme, which will provide £2.1 million to fund innovative physical activities for people across the province. Local communities will be invited to apply for grants to fund activities such as walking history clubs, dance sessions, wheelchair-based activities and cycling clubs.
