Plans to redevelop the Liverpool International Garden Festival site are in the pipeline in a joint venture by developers Langtree and the David McLean Group. The 35ha site, which has just been acquired by Langtree, has become derelict since the festival took place in 1984. Talks are being held with Liverpool City Council on the project. Early ideas for the site include a parkland scheme, housing and leisure uses and the restoration of some of the gardens.

Government plans to fold the regional housing boards into regional planning bodies as early as May next year could scupper housing-led regeneration, according to a group of housing, planning and local government bodies.

An area development framework (ADF) for north Hull has been developed by consultancy Scott Wilson. The framework, commissioned by the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire housing market renewal pathfinder, covers six wards and a population of around 80,000. It includes local area analysis, a spatial plan, a delivery plan and neighbourhood masterplans. ADFs for north, east and west Hull will be submitted to the ODPM in a bid to gain approval for long-term government funding.

A campaign has been launched in Glasgow to tackle prejudice by raising awareness of diversity in the city. The campaign, entitled Glasgow, We're Every Kind of People, features Glaswegians from a variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds, including a priest, a Church of Scotland minister, three pupils from Hillhead Primary School (above), a man who supports Rangers and his wife, a Celtic fan. Over six weeks their faces will appear on large outdoor poster sites across the city as well as on subway stations and buses. The campaign is in response to a survey that found that almost half of people in the city would be concerned about the prospect of refugees or asylum seekers moving next door to them.

A £16 million housing regeneration scheme in Leicester will be driven forward by affordable housing provider Lovell and Touchstone Housing Association. A total of 130 houses will be built across the Beaumont Leys estate, replacing outdated 1970s homes. Around a third of the homes will be for rent and shared ownership while the rest will be for open-market sale. Work on the two-year scheme is set to begin next spring.

The regeneration budget for the West Midlands will be almost doubled by the region's development agency over the next three years. Advantage West Midlands will increase the budget that it makes available to its six designated regeneration zones from £61.5 million in 2004-05 to £110 million by 2007-08. The cash injection will fund various projects and infrastructure schemes to be outlined in three-year zone implementation plans currently in preparation.
