Community Renewal: Green team pitches in
3 September 2004
Volunteers from housing estates across Slough joined together last week to clean up facilities at a local park. The event brought together people from environmental regeneration charity Groundwork UK, Slough Borough Council, the local Sure Start programme and local residents in a combined effort to remove graffiti and litter from Lismore Park (above). The clean-up was organised by the Park Community Partnership as part of the borough council's Keep Slough Green and Tidy campaign. Four social landlords - ASRA Greater London Housing Association, Airways Housing Group, Toynbee Housing and Thames Valley Housing Association - also took part in the event.

The rules on the sale of school playing fields are to be strengthened, the Department for Education and Skills announced last week. The DfES said that under the new protection, the sale of playing fields would become a last resort, with local authorities having to demonstrate that they had exhausted all other sources of funding before being allowed to sell fields to finance new sports facilities.
