News brief: Plans for mixed-use development

Plans for a £100 million mixed-use development to include a Sainsbury's food store and 400 new homes have been backed by the Milton Keynes Partnership Committee. The proposals, which are still subject to planning consent from Milton Keynes Council, are part of comprehensive plans to redevelop the west end of Milton Keynes. The area could provide up to 2,400 new homes in Milton Keynes over the next eight years.
News brief: Key site in Staffordshire housing market renewal area bought

A key site in the Staffordshire housing market renewal pathfinder area has been bought by the Government's regeneration agency. English Partnerships hopes that the former brownfield site in Knutton and Cross Heath will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider area. Clearance of the 5.6ha site is to start later this month.

Learning and regeneration umbrella body Hackney Training and Employment Network has appointed Sonia Khan as its new chief executive. She replaces Elizabeth Balgobin, the founding chief executive, who leaves the organisation after seven years. Khan will take up her post in October.

Elaine Le Montais has joined regeneration and housing agency Keynote Housing Group as head of regeneration. She will lead the delivery of the group's regeneration programme across the Midlands and will oversee five regional teams covering Stoke-on-Trent, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Leicester and Coventry.

John Sanderson has joined East Riding of Yorkshire Council as strategic development manager (safe communities). He will be responsible for strategic leadership and performance management of a range of crime reduction, community safety and related services. He joins from Humberside Police, where for the past two years he was chief superintendent, head of corporate services.

Mortimer will be responsible for ensuring the coalfield programme's 100 sites meet their output and spend targets. He joins from consultancy GVA Grimley where he was a development consultant.
