Stop Press: Slot machines to be limited

High stake, high prize slot machines will be limited to the largest regional casinos when the gambling bill is introduced, culture secretary Tessa Jowell confirmed this week. She was responding to a joint committee report on the bill that recommended allowing some small casinos to have the 'category A' machines. Jowell said the machines will only be permitted in small casinos if studies show they are not increasing problem gambling. Stop Press: The GLA gives green light

The Greater London Authority has given the green light to plans for London's main Olympic site. The site, near Stratford in east London, would include the main stadium, aquatics centre and athletes' village if the capital's bid to host the 2012 Games is successful. The application is now with the Government, which can call it in for determination by the deputy prime minister through a public inquiry.
