Birmingham City Council, in partnership with New Frankley Parish Council, has appointed regeneration consultancy Urban Practitioners to lead a team to prepare a development strategy for the Frankley area of Birmingham. The team also includes property specialists CB Richard Ellis and transport consultants Alan Baxter & Associates. Frankley is an outer Birmingham suburb around 12km south-west of the city centre. The predominantly council-owned estate was built in the 1970s and is home to around 7,000 residents.
Business brief: Waverley & Guildford Borough Councils appoint Hyder Consulting

Waverley and Guildford Borough Councils have appointed Hyder Consulting to support them in the application of the contaminated land regulations and processing of planning applications connected to brownfield and contaminated sites. Both appointments are for an initial period of three years. Hyder will advise on whether sites should be considered by the Environment Agency as special sites and on issues relating to liability and remediation costs.

The feasibility of a centre for the development and retailing of Welsh-designed and manufactured products in mid Wales is to be tested by Atkins. The study for Brecon Action will include a retail market assessment, comparator analysis while consulting designers, producers, local businesses and a range of stakeholders. Atkins will also investigate spatial and operational models.
