A coalition of 15 childcare organisations this week called for a greater role for schools in delivering the Children's Bill. The proposed legislation calls for greater integration of local authorities' social services and education departments to prevent the sort of breakdown in communication that contributed towards the death of Victoria Climbie in 2000. The inter-agency group has called for schools to be given more of a role in identifying priorities and resources for children.
Stop Press: Conservative Urban Alliance set up

A Conservative Urban Alliance has been set up to promote the work done by Tory councillors in tackling crime and urban decay. Launching the alliance in North Tyneside this week, shadow secretary of state for local government Eric Pickles said that urban Conservative councils would be adopting policies from Tory authorities, such as Westminster City Council's civic renewal scheme and Wandsworth Council's hidden homes initiative.
