The site is one of two main landfills taking the county's domestic and non-hazardous commercial wastes.
In brief: Harnessing benefits of population growth

Harnessing the benefits of population growth, enhancing the environment and economic prosperity and tackling deprivation and intra-regional inequalities should be among the key objectives for the South West, according to a draft integrated regional strategy. The document, published by the South West Regional Assembly, claims that objectives such as providing housing to meet needs while prioritising people's ability to access jobs and services require an integrated approach across all policy areas. It aims to set the context for each subject strategy for the region. Just Connect: An Integrated Regional Strategy for the South West 2004-26 can be viewed via www.PlanningResource.co.uk.
