Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises (Management) Ltd has been chosen to help British Waterways create a nationwide waterside pubs business. British Waterways, the public corporation responsible for the care of more than 3,000km of canals and rivers, said it was impressed by the quality of the firm's leased pub operation. The partnership will have access to prime waterside properties and locations, including an initial mixed portfolio of 59 pubs and development sites.
Business Briefs: Strand campus to undergo programme of repair

King's College London's Strand campus will undergo a programme of repair and refurbishment to be supervised by BDP. The grade I listed building, adjacent to Somerset House, will gain improved teaching, academic and social facilities. The scheme forms the first phase of redevelopment at one of the most densely populated tertiary facilities in the country. BDP's £22 million commission includes architecture, structural and building services. The facilities are due to open in 2006.

An eight-storey office scheme has been granted permission by Manchester City Council. Maple Grove Developments, the development arm of Eric Wright Group, secured the go-ahead for Cobbetts House to accommodate law firm Cobbetts's Manchester office on the former site of Eagle Star House. The 10,600 sq m scheme forms a key element in the Mosley Street regeneration strategy, which seeks to enhance the commercial success of the financial services district. Work starts this month and is expected to be complete by spring 2007.

Halpern's Grant Road project for the Acton Housing Association will create a street based on home zone principles. A total of 97 social and market sale homes will be built as well as wheelchair-accessible houses, shared ownership and rented apartments.

Permission to expand the High Post manufacturing facility just north of Salisbury has been secured by the Humberts planning team. The project, given the go-ahead by Salisbury District Council, will provide on-site warehouse space for Mahle Filter Systems UK and is expected to create around 50 jobs. It also involves a green travel plan for staff, including dedicated car-share parking spaces, a footpath and a proposed staff bus.
