I've just spent a boozy weekend in Barcelona, along with thousands of other Brits who seem to operate to the same guiding, epicurean, principles as yours truly, viz: drink has been a wholly positive experience in my life and girls are great. But boy, do the Brits in Barcelona drink, making even me think twice about the attractions of the night time economy. And it's not just me. Barcelonans don't, I suspect, now view Easyjet as approvingly as they did before the lads and ladettes brought mayhem as well as money to the putrid alleyways of the Barri Gotic on your average stag or hen weekend.

Regionalisation has been on the agenda of both Labour and Conservative governments since the early 20th century. CB Fawcett's Provinces Of England (1919) first argued that an increasingly mobile, urbanised and industrialised society was beyond the control of central and local government. The creation of Special Areas in the 1930s and prime minister Clement Attlee's regional policy in 1945 were further evidence of the acceptance of regional differences.

None of the three long travellators from the gate to the baggage hall is working; well, the walk will do us all good, warding off deep vein thrombosis. But the escalator isn't working either. Nor is the lift - vital for disabled passengers. No-one seems to know who's responsible. The suggestion is that no-one is.
