Deputy prime minister John Prescott was due to reveal details of the Government's response to the Egan skills review during a tour of Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire after Regeneration & Renewal went to press this week. He was also due to announce details of a housing pilot in Milton Keynes and a scheme to allow communities in Swindon to have a say in masterplanning. In addition, he was scheduled to speak about the progress of the national skills centre, which was recommended by Sir John Egan in his review of regeneration skills.

The book from the Child Poverty Action Group reviews the first year of the new tax credit system and finds that the complications inherent in the system means many claimants are still unsure how to access credits."
