Regeneration News: Councourse Tower bought by English Partnerships

Councourse Tower next to Liverpool's Lime Street station has been bought by English Partnerships. The quango is expected to demolish the tower as part of plans to develop a gateway to the city in time for its tenure as European Capital of Culture 2008. It has already acquired a complex of 1960s shops on the station frontage and is in talks with occupiers to leave the properties before development can proceed.

Regeneration News: First phase secures planning permission

The first phase of a major regeneration scheme in north Kent secured detailed planning permission last week. Gravesham Borough Council granted consent for Countryside Properties PLC's regeneration of the Gravesend Canal Basin. Under the £120 million scheme, disused industrial land and buildings at the site will be transformed into a riverside area to be known as the Embankment. The project will create up to 1,000 homes, 25 per cent of which will be affordable, a neighbourhood centre, shops and leisure facilities.
