Tim Chapman has joined the new NHS London Healthy Development Unit as deputy head. The unit aims to significantly improve the health of Londoners by helping to create sustainable and healthy communities across the capital. Chapman previously worked for the Association of London Government as principal planner.

Graham Sadler has been appointed as a development director by the Leicester Regeneration Company. Sadler has experience of working on major regeneration schemes in his previous roles in South Yorkshire. Steve Compton has also joined the company as a development manager. Compton moves from Advantage West Midlands, where he was responsible for regeneration in the Black Country and other areas.

A £10 million fund to provide finance for start-up and fast-growth business in the South-East has been launched by the Government. The Accelerator Fund, which will provide finance of up to £100,000 for firms, is backed by £5 million investment from the Department of Trade and Industry's Small Business Service, with the rest coming from Halifax Bank of Scotland. Quintain Estates, the developers behind major regeneration schemes like the Millennium Dome site and Wembley Stadium, reported an annual 15 per cent rise in profits this week. The company's pre-tax profits rose from £14 million to £16 million in the year to 31 March. Last week, the company finalised the planning agreement for its 85ha development on the Greenwich peninsula (see p11).

The regeneration of Droylsden Canalside Quarter in Greater Manchester moved forward this week after the appointment of Watkin Jones as developer. The plans for the area, four miles outside central Manchester, are for a mixed-use urban village waterfront community. Watkin Jones will submit a masterplan to the council in the autumn.
