The Strategic Rail Authority has appointed MVA to develop the regional planning assessment for the North East. MVA will work with Corus Rail consultancy and Llewelyn Davies on the project. The work will focus on an area covered by around 370km of passenger railway network including the East Coast Main Line and the use of railways for freight transport. MVA will forecast patterns of rail and road use over a 20-year period.

The project includes removing 250m of subways and replacing the area's southern roundabout with a traffic signal-controlled junction.
