A new community warden scheme has been established in Bankside and the Pool of London. Adjacent to the river Thames, the area is visited by thousands of tourists drawn in by some of the capital's major attractions, including Tower Bridge, Tate Modern and Millennium Bridge. The wardens aim to provide information and assistance to visitors, as well as improving the environment and reducing crime by working closely with local businesses. The scheme is a partnership between Southwark Council, regeneration agency Pool of London Partnership and regeneration project Better Bankside.

The council claims that plans to extend the £5 toll into the borough would be "disastrous" for businesses. A survey by the London Chamber of Commerce, published this week, also reveals that most London businesses are against the extension. Consultation on the plans runs until 23 April.
