A two-day patrol of a river walk between Catford and Sydenham last week has proved successful in helping to clamp down on criminal and anti-social behaviour in the area, according to organisers. The aim of the event, organised by the London Borough of Lewisham and the police, was to provide a visible presence, distribute enforcement notices to anyone caught committing offences and pass on information to the public.

Consumer minister Gerry Sutcliffe has called on credit companies to improve data sharing to help promote responsible lending and crack down on the exploitation of vulnerable borrowers. Speaking at the British Bankers Association annual conference last week, he said credit companies should ensure they share the fullest possible information to avoid lending to those already struggling with credit. He also urged lenders to help the Government in the implementation of the Consumer Credit White Paper.
