Bristol Magistrates Court has ordered property developers Barratts and Kings Oak to pay fines totalling £16,400, after they admitted to charges of wilful damage to trees subject to a tree preservation order. The damage was caused during work on the Imperial Sports Ground Development in Brislington, South Bristol.

The Chartered Institute of Housing, the Local Government Association and the National Housing Federation have formed an alliance to lobby for increased housing resources in chancellor Gordon Brown's forthcoming spending review. The group has called for £8.4 billion of investment in affordable housing and infrastructure between 2005 and 2008 and a national strategy to tackle low demand and housing market failure in declining communities.
