Four sites in the Scottish Highlands are to be developed to provide 43 affordable homes, following a grant of more than £2.8 million from national regeneration agency Communities Scotland. Housing association Albyn Housing Society is to build the homes at Dores, Beauly, Nethybridge and Tain.
Regeneration News brief: Walsall business community figures recruited to board of urban regeneration company

Six prominent figures from Walsall's business community have been recruited to the board of the town's urban regeneration company. West Midlands Co-operative Society chief executive Ben Reid will chair the board and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2000 Geoff Archenold will join the team. Stoford Developments Ltd director Christopher Lea and WA Goold Holdings Ltd group managing director Dominic Goold will provide property development advice. Financial knowledge will be supplied by Jonathan Dudley, founding partner of the Walsall office of Horwath Clark Whitehill. Brian Lowe, a sales director at local firm Lobro Tools, is the sixth appointment.

Urban environment charity the Civic Trust has promoted deputy chairman Nigel Burton to the position of chairman. He replaces Dame Jennifer Jenkins, who had been acting as interim chairman. Burton is director of development and services at retailer Waitrose. Jenkins will continue as a trustee. The trust has also appointed three new trustees.
Regeneration News brief: Carmarthenshire CC gives backing to retail development plans

Carmarthenshire County Council has given its backing to revised plans for a retail development on the site of Carmarthen's former cattle market. The seventh version of proposals for the site in two years has been approved in principle by the council. Previous proposals were rejected after local opposition to plans to move the market, but the latest scheme keeps the market virtually where it is. Other elements of the application include a multi-screen cinema, department store, bowling alley and shops.
