JMP Consulting is proposing a bridge over the River Mersey in Warrington as part of the traffic assessment that the company is preparing for the expansion of the Warrington Centre business park. Maro Developments wants to double the size of the site. JMP is examining how new infrastructure could serve the business park and relieve pressure on the town centre traffic system.

Hyder Consulting will provide engineering and environmental support to Barking Riverside Ltd in its plans to regenerate Barking Reach in the Thames Gateway. More than 10,000 homes are proposed at the 150ha site as well as schools, community facilities and improvements to more than 2km of river frontage. Hyder Consulting's role will be to design earthworks, drainage and highways infrastructure, oversee site preparation and contribute to the environmental statement in the planning application.

A government adviser warned last week that planned improvements to public transport in the West Midlands will not be sufficient to meet the region's transport and economic needs unless they are accompanied by congestion charging. Commission for Integrated Transport chair David Begg claimed that businesses could lose up to £3 billion over the next 20 years through time and fuel costs if charging isn't introduced.
