Plans for a six-lane east London river crossing were approved by Transport for London's board as Regeneration & Renewal went to press. The £450 million Thames Gateway Bridge would link the north circular road at Beckton with Thamesmead on the south of the river. The Department for Transport gave financial backing to the proposals earlier this year (Regeneration & Renewal, 16 January, p13). TfL said a planning application will be submitted in June, when a public inquiry would also take place.
