Urban design practice Roger Evans Associates has been hired by the London Borough of Brent to develop a tall buildings strategy to provide guidance on locations and designs in Wembley. The study will focus on the town centre, Wembley High Road and areas surrounding the new national stadium and will analyse how proposals can help regenerate the area.

Changes to the Edinburgh and Lothians structure plan were proposed by Scottish ministers last week. The modifications include an early review of the plan, a more effective process for monitoring housing and land supply and reducing the scale of a development area in the A701 corridor. Ministers also want changes to waste and flooding policies to bring them in line with national policy. Consultation on the changes runs for six weeks.

Third parties in appeal cases will be given extra time to consider written representations lodged by developers and planning authorities under amended procedures floated by planning minister Keith Hill last week. Under the changes, outlined in an ODPM consultation document, third parties would be able to make their submissions nine weeks into the appeal timetable, three weeks later than the principal parties. Up to 35,000 jobs could be sustained across the UK in the renewable energy industry by 2020, a study has found. The Renewables Supply Chain Gap Analysis, commissioned by the Renewables Advisory Board, predicts that between 17,000 and 35,000 jobs could be created by 2020. Around 8,000 people are employed in the industry in the UK and an average of ten full-time jobs can be created per new megawatt of renewable energy produced, it estimates.
