Commercial and residential property investor Assettrust Housing has appointed affordable housing experts Peter Chapman and Peter Kershaw as non-executive directors. Chapman is a director of a subsidiary of housing consultancy Hacas, while Kershaw has been involved in property development for 25 years, including managing the Kuala Lumpur city centre development.

Plymouth City Council has appointed Nigel Pitt as its director of development. Pitt's regeneration responsibilities will include delivering major regeneration and investment proposals for the city centre and waterfront. He will also be responsible for mainstreaming neighbourhood renewal activity and supporting major programmes such as Devonport NDC. He has been acting as director of development since January 2002.

Eileen Graham has been appointed as the business resource centre coordinator to The Hub skills and IT support centre sited on the Bayton Road Industrial Estate in Coventry, one of the largest industrial estates in the West Midlands. The Hub is managed by Warwickshire County Council with funding from, among others, regional development agency Advantage West Midlands. She previously worked for Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.

People living in deprived areas are most likely to suffer from the effects of pollution, according to a report by the Environment Agency this week. Analysing the Government's Index of Multiple Deprivation, the research found that in some parts of the country deprived communities bear the greatest burden of poor air quality.
