North-East theatre chiefs have asked Newcastle City Council to pledge a further £2 million to the city's culture quarter project to allow the redevelopment of Newcastle Playhouse to go ahead. As part of an £8 million fundraising campaign, Northern Arts asked the city's cabinet to provide the cash in addition to the £2.3 million it promised for the Great Museum for the North scheme in the city's Haymarket area.
